Creating a ReadME

Now that you have successfully packaged your file and created your preview, you should now write up a small txt file telling your fans a little bit about yourself and your sharing policies. Include any credits and link backs and provide a brief set of instructions on how your fans can install your custom content into their Sims3 game. End it with an address back to your FanPage and a way that your fans can contact you for questions or comments. I have an illustration below using my actual ReadMe for those who would want to see a ReadMe in use.

I have also written up a SAMPLEReadMe for newbie creators to use as a template for their ReadMe. If you wish to use this SAMPLEReadMe, you may click here to download it. I do have my install instructions in this SAMPLEReadMe. You may use these instructions in your ReadMe if you choose…as long as they apply to your custom content.

1.    Open up your ‘Notepad’ application. You will find it here:

Vista and XP – Start>All Programs> Accessories>Notepad

2.    Give an Introduction.

3.    Provide your fans with your Sharing Policies.

4.    Provide Credits and Link Backs if needed.

5.    Provide a brief set of instructions on how to install your custom content.

6.    Provide an address back to your FanPage.

7.    Provide contact information for fan questions or comments.

8.    Save the text file in a convenient folder with a name like ‘xxxxReadMe'. Replace the x’s with your Sims3 identity or the name of your FanPage. Naming your ReadMe in this manner keeps it from being lost in a sea of other creators’ ReadMe’s.

You could save your ReadMe in the same folder where you saved your PreView.
